Australian producer Jack Grace has been one to watch ever since he released ‘Hills’ two years ago, and since then, he’s gone from strength to strength in all areas. Listening to the magnificence of newest track ‘downstate’, you can’t fail to be drawn into that earnest vocal and be carried along by the tides of those deft electronics. This is heart-swelling, 'get the tissues ready' kind of music. That sorrowful refrain, “‘Cause you know, I’m missing home, but it’s too late to back,” is set against a rising tempo of fluctuating synths, EQ sweeps, syncopated beats that builds with an ever-pressing urgency. As with preceding single ‘row me home’, Jack Grace looks deeply into the sense of belonging, of place, and how that relates to one’s identity with the crushing beauty of his talent.
